The Very Best Way to Study for the ARE

I’m often asked the best way to study for these exams: it is to make your own outstanding test questions, really really outstanding test questions.

An outstanding test question is very likely to be answered correctly by a test-taker who understands the subject matter and is very unlikely to be answered correctly by a test-taker who doesn’t understand the subject matter.

Ask an educator, and they’ll tell you that making an evaluation tool for their students provided the path to long-term retention for the teacher.

A Warning: this is a time-intensive way to study, an order-of-magnitude slower than other methods.
